Yorkon strenghtens management team with three new appointments

Award-winning off-site construction specialist and Portakabin subsidiary, Yorkon, has made three new appointments to further strengthen its management and business development teams.

After 13 years with Yorkon, Andrew Simpkin has been promoted to the position of Operations Manager. A member of the Chartered Institute of Building and a graduate in construction management, Andrew now heads up one of two teams responsible for off-site projects in both public and private sectors. He will oversee retail, health, education and office schemes, from sales and estimating through to construction and handover of the finished buildings.

Rebecca Thompson has been appointed Commercial Team Manager. With a career in the construction industry, which spans 16 years, Rebecca joined Yorkon as a Project Controller. In her new role, she will manage a team of project controllers and engineers, seeing off-site schemes through the planning, design and manufacturing stages, to fitting out and completion on site, and ensuring delivery on time and on budget.

The company’s new Business Development Manager for London and the South East is Tom Weaver. His career has included positions with Toyota, 10 years’ in business development and several years as a Centre Manager for the Portakabin Hire Division. He will now be working closely with local authorities and construction companies on the Government’s Building Schools for the Future initiative and with independent healthcare providers and contractors involved in the Independent Sector Treatment Centre programme to increase capacity in the NHS.

Commenting on the new appointments, David Johnson, Director and General Manager of Yorkon, said, “We are experiencing a huge increase in demand for off-site construction, particularly in the health and education sectors, and expect this to continue to rise. The modular technique can help deliver higher quality facilities to tight timescales, with greatly reduced disruption on site and much less risk for the client.”

He added, “These new appointments will further strengthen our management team. We are committed to delivering every project on budget and on time – and the fact that more than 70 per cent of our business is from repeat customers is further evidence of our success.”

Yorkon’s customers include private healthcare providers such as Mercury Health and UK Specialty Hospitals; Tesco, Pizza Hut, and education authorities nationwide, including Leeds City Council and South Lanarkshire Council.

Yorkon is part of the Shepherd Building Group – one of Europe’s largest privately owned businesses in the construction sector – and a subsidiary of Portakabin. Established in 1980, Yorkon is now the UK’s leading off-site specialist and has pioneered innovative building solutions in some of the most challenging situations and in sectors as diverse as supermarkets, offices, hospitals, airports, restaurants and schools.
