Ten Rival Football Nations In One Office Make World Cup Exciting For Search Marketing Agency

Across England, workplaces are buzzing with talk about the England team’s chances in the World Cup, but imagine what it’s like when you’ve got ten competing nations represented in one office.

That’s the situation at York based search marketing agency Web Certain. Members of staff from France, Spain, Holland, Germany, Italy, Japan, Czech Republic, Mexico, USA and of course England, work closely together – and they all think their team is going to do best.

It’s a good place to visit to get a break from talk about Wayne Rooney’s metatarsal. The conversation here is just as likely to be about Jurgen Klinsmann’s tactical decisions, Cisse’s broken leg, or the impact Ruud Van Nistelrooy will have on his opponent’s defences.

The reason Web Certain have so many nationalities on their staff is that they provide multilingual internet services to a range of international companies.

Web Certain’s Managing Director, Andy Atkins-Kruger explains: “There’s nothing better than local knowledge. When we’re running a Japanese site, for example, we need to know the translation is absolutely spot on and is sensitive to local issues. That’s why we employ native speakers. It’s also a great advantage to our clients to have the team they deal with all working from one office.

Andy continues: “There certainly has been some lively chat about the World Cup amongst the Web Certain team. It makes the tournament as a whole very interesting for us, rather than the focus simply being on the England games, as there are people in the office with a vested interest in many of the opening fixtures.

“Bearing this in mind, Web Certain is a neutral supporter – officially anyway.”

As well as the nations who have reached the World Cup finals, Web Certain also has staff who support Norway, Scotland, Austria and Russia.

The Web Certain team have been teaching each other footballing phrases in their different languages. For example, the English speakers have learnt how to say “sick as a parrot” in Dutch (“ziek als een papegaai”) and “over the moon” in Spanish (“Sobre la luna”).

They have also learnt that these phrases are never used outside Britain and you will get a look of complete bafflement if you do use them. An example of the importance of local knowledge!

Web Certain is a multilingual search marketing agency whose “World language hub” consists of a team of search specialists of many languages all working together on search engine optimisation, website development and pay per click campaigns under one roof.
