Crete – holiday home favourite say experts

The island of Crete is rapidly becoming a property investment hotspot, say investment experts who have identified it as a favoured holiday home destination.

Holidays in Crete have been popular with British holidaymakers for several decades as the island offers a wide contrast between lively resorts for group holidays (Malia) and quieter resorts, such as Agios Nikolaos which is a popular Mediterranean family holiday location.

The price of property in Crete has risen by fifteen per cent year-on-year since 2000, but it is still an inexpensive option compared to many European countries.

Susan Peters, sales & marketing manager of the property investment group who commissioned the investigation into the Cretan property market said: “The island has much to offer from quiet mountain villages, long sandy beaches, rocky bays and an abundance of flora and fauna.”

“Crete is an island of wonderful contrasts, which offers buyers a real opportunity for property investment by way of its inexpensive prices, prospects for future capital growth and secure freehold ownership unattached from expiry dates, which means that the investment can be passed on to descendants.”

One reason for the popularity for Crete holiday homes is that flights to Crete leave the UK from airports all around the country, including: Belfast, Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, East Midlands, Exeter, Gatwick, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle and London Stanstead.
